Course Requirements:
1. Online Support: Students are to sign up for an account at http://www.blogger.com and www.schoology.com. This enables constant student-teacher interaction/feedback, to support the learning that is going on in the English classroom, journaling, and other learning purposes throughout the semester.
2. Journals: Students will be expected to write in their on-line journal once a week. Most journal assignments will be personal reflection over assigned reading or other related topics. To receive full points, students must write two paragraphs of at least five sentences in each paragraph. Journals may also be used as a dialogue between the teacher and the student. Only the teacher will be reading your journals. Journals should not contain anything offensive in nature that would be contrary to the mission of EIS. Please be aware of this as you write your journals. Journals are to be turned in every Friday.
3. Reading: All students are required to attend Reading Lab session. While most reading will be done in class, there will be times when reading will have to be done outside of class. This will be required.
4. Writing: In-class writing and other writing assignments are expected.
5. English Binder: Students are required to keep all their works in their English binder provided in class. There will be random binder checks at least every month. Failure to do so will result in point deduction.
6. Class projects: There will be small projects for the first three quarters. For the last quarter, a research paper accompanied by a presentation is required from each student.
7. Tests and Exams: There will be unannounced quizzes and announced tests every quarter. Exams are scheduled at the end of each two semesters.
Materials Required:
Vocabulary notebook
Grammar & Literature notebook
A4 Writing Pad
Late Work:
All assignments must be handed in on time. Late work is unacceptable. If a student has an excused absence, he/she has one day for every day he/she is absent to make up the work. This rule is also in effect for tests and exams. If a student fails to make up the test or exam prior to the deadline then they will receive a zero for that test or exam. It is the student’s responsibility to check the bulletin board for missing work, tests and exams. Assignments turned in late will be marked late and 10 percent will be deducted from your grade each day the assignment is late (school holidays and weekends are not counted). In-class assignments will not be accepted late.
Extra Credit:
There will be numerous opportunities for extra credit. Students who show extra effort and contribute ideas in class or group discussions will be able to earn as well.
Essay Submission:
All essays will be submitted via Turnitin.com. Turnitin.com is a plagiarism check program. You will receive a report of any parts of your essay that was plagiarized. I will also receive that report. Students who plagiarize will receive 0 for that essay.
Cheating:
Cheating is absolutely unacceptable in this class. Cheating comprises of copying someone else’s work and submitting it as your own, allowing another student to do your work for you, or allowing another student to copy your work. Copying work from a textbook or the Internet is also cheating. Students who are caught cheating will receive a 0 for that assignment, test, or exam, and a reduction of ESLO points. Students who continually cheat may be asked to the leave the class.
Essay Resubmission:
Students may redo essays to improve their scores. Students who wish to redo an essay must complete the following steps before their essay is rescored. One) Student must write a response to the comments that are written on their paper. Two) Student must conference with the teacher about the essay. Three) rewrite essay. Four) Prior to resubmission, student must highlight all areas that were changed in the essay. Five) Write a one-page paper on what you changed and how it made the essay better. Six) The new essay as well as the one-page reflection must be stapled to the old essay and then submitted to the Teacher. There will be no improved score for conventions (grammar and punctuation) as you should be editing this yourself the first time.
Attendance:
Attendance in this class is required. As per school policy students who miss more than five days of class with either an excused or unexcused absence will receive an F for the quarter. Attendance will be taken every day at the beginning of class. Those students who are tardy will receive a deduction of 3 points per tardy. If a student is late from a previous class, a note from the previous class teacher is required. A deduction of 5 points will be given to those students who are absent. Students who sleep in class will be counted as absent, as you cannot participate in class when you sleeping. It is as if you are not there.
Speaking English:
Only English will be spoken in the classroom. Students who use Thai, Chinese, Korean, or any other language, will have a deduction of points from their overall English grade. This will include not speaking English on campus. EIS has chosen to use English as its medium of teaching. Therefore students should take full advantage of the opportunity to improve their English.
ESP is part of your English. You are awarded 50 points per quarter; it is up to you to keep these points. If you are caught speaking any language other than English, you will receive an ESP ticket which is equal to the deduction of 1 point for each occurrence. If you exceed 50 ESP tickets, that will carry over to the next quarter.

Your grades will be calculated with the following percentages:
